Emily Dickinson and her "special friend"

Amherst College Archives and Special Collections and The Emily Dickinson Museum released the below photo a few weeks ago. It is a circa 1860 daugerrotype of a 30 year old Emily Dickinson (left) and her close friend/possible lover Kate Turner (right).

To prove how camera-shy Ms. Dickinson was, here is the only other known photo of the author/poet. It was taken in 1847, when she was still a teenager.

As I need to post my review of The Poems of Emily Dickinson shortly, I figured I'd give you all a little appetizer with these photos.
